    DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

About the Department

The Department of Mathematics came into being in August 1960 with the three-year B.Sc. degree course in Mathematics Honours. Sixty-one years down the line, it has had much to feel happy about. It has had a faculty committed to the course of excellence and also students – scores of them – who have brought glory to it by their brilliant academic performance.

The Department started with seven boys on its rolls. The first faculty comprised four teachers – Sri Gobindadev Bhattacharya, Sri Baidyanath Basu, Sri Sudarshan Das and Sri Rasik Chakraborty. Sri Bhattacharya, a man of rich experience was entrusted with the charge of the first Head of the Department and he was ably assisted by three young enthusiastic ex-students of the Ashrama Students' Home at Pathuriaghata. ...Read More

Perspective

An honours programme in Mathematics at the Undergraduate level is one of the most versatile degrees in terms of skills, knowledge-based and career options. The department aims to nurture the students for learning Mathematics and choosing a career based on mathematical education. The students of Honours course in mathematics are gradually trained in such logical and mathematical techniques that they have access to rewarding career opportunities in numerous sectors. The flexible framework of the CCFUP provides a perfect opportunity to build a strong foundation in modern Mathematics as well as to explore other disciplines...Read More

We are committed to building on the solid foundations of mathematics. We are having well qualified, dedicated and dynamic faculty, whose expertise spans the range of disciplines in Mathematics stream. Our goal is to not only impart knowledge but also to inspire a lifelong love for mathematics in our students.

The Department of Mathematics, from its inception, has made a conscious effort to evolve its capabilities in academia. We believe that expertise in Mathematics helps strengthen an individual’s analytical and reasoning skills. Our aim is to build a strong foundation in Mathematics through teaching that is accessible, engaging and student-centric.

We encourage students to take part in various competitions and activities such as Mathematics Training and Talent Search Programme (MTTS).

I invite you to explore the wealth of opportunities that our department offers. Whether you are a prospective student, a parent, or a fellow academic, I encourage you to reach out, ask questions and discover how you can be a part of our journey to advance the field of mathematics.
