About the Department

Welcome to the department of Data Science & AI.

Data science, which lies at the junction of mathematics, statistics, and computer science, is transforming numerous sectors, shaping policy decisions, and redefining our understanding of the world. In response to the diverse needs emerging across these fields, Swami Shastrajnananda ji Maharaj, Secretary of RKM Narendrapur, has put forward a visionary proposal to launch a new programme at RKMRC aimed at addressing these demands. Following extensive consultations with distinguished academicians and industry leaders, the department was established in 2024.

Perspective

Our department emphasizes the integration of theoretical knowledge with practical applications in statistics and computing. We aim to foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and a strong foundation in statistical methods, preparing our students for diverse challenges in academia and industry. We are committed to nurturing talent and ensuring our graduates are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to their fields.

Progression

The Department of Statistics at Ramakrishna Mission Residential College offers a comprehensive academic progression, starting with the foundational pass course introduced in 1960 and advancing to the honours course established in 1962. Students build a strong foundation in statistical methods, theory, and computing, equipping them for higher studies and professional success. Many graduates proceed to prestigious master's programs, with a significant number pursuing PhDs at renowned institutions worldwide. This academic journey ensures that students are well-prepared for both academic research and diverse industry careers.

Our students have achieved excellent job placements after completing their master's degrees, securing positions in highly regarded multinational corporations (MNCs) such

as NielsenIQ, Eli Lilly, HDFC Bank, PWC, Novo Nordisk, Standard Chartered Bank, Barclays, Cognitio Analytics, BluePond AI, and Michelin. These positions offer a

median salary of approximately 15 lakhs INR per annum, with the highest salary reaching approximately 20 lakhs INR per annum.
