    DEPARTMENT OF SANSKRIT

About the Department

"विद्ययाऽमृतमश्नुते”
The Sanskrit Department came into being in phases since 1960. Over a period of fifty years, this Department has contributed, in no small measure, to the enrichment of the tradition of academic excellence of the College. This subject taught by the faculty members of this dept. only up to General level belongs to Humanities and Social Sciences. BA Honours in Sanskrit was introduced in the year 2016. M.A. in Sanskrit was introduced in the year 2022. By introducing the Ph.D. course, a new feather is also attached to the crown of this Department.
All the faculty members of the Department update themselves for discharging their teaching and research responsibilities by attending Seminars, Conferences, Workshops organized at State, National and International levels.
Students are assessed through various examinations centrally conducted by the College. A part from this system, teachers arrange for class-tests and surprise tests. Students’ seminars and group discussion sessions are also organized to assess the overall progress and academic standard of the students. Students are encouraged to assess themselves and bring their weaknesses to the notice of the teachers concerned to enable them to chalk out.
The present faculty members of this Department pay their homage to those distinguished former teachers but for whom the Department could not have attained its present stature. Dr. Pradyot Banerjee (1960) is the founder Head of the Department. It goes without saying that his contributions in building the Department are unparalleled. Dr. Sanjit Kumar Sadhukhan (now in RBU) enriched the same from 1997 to 2005. Now Dr. Narayana Dash, HOD, and Dr. Surajit Banerjee are serving the Department and carrying the legacy forward.
