About the Department

Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at Ramakrishna Mission Residential College (Autonomous). Our faculty members are dedicated to delivering exceptional education by integrating their extensive research expertise with classroom instruction. The Computer Science Department provides academic programs in computing, information technology, and software design and application. We offer both B.Sc (Hons.) and M.Sc degrees. Our programs are characterized by interDepartmental, multi-institutional, and inter-institutional collaborations, drawing faculty, undergraduate, and graduate students from across the globe. The Department is equipped with cutting-edge computing infrastructure and is supported by high-speed Ethernet and wireless networks.

Welcome to the Department of Computer Science at RKMRC. Founded in 2001 with a B.Sc. program, our department now offers B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees. We have a variety of students and young talents with a good mix of faculties from various fields of expertise making the department a place for quality research and teaching. Many of our alumni have secured significant positions in industry and academia worldwide. Our vision is to attain global excellence while ensuring local relevance in research, teaching, and technology development in Computer Science. To achieve this, the department is actively involved in research across multiple disciplines.

Placement and Progression

Placement for computer science students typically focuses on roles in software development, data analytics, IT services, and related technical fields. Companies like TCS, PEC, Tutech, and HSBC recruit students from this domain for various technical roles. TCS is renowned for IT services and solutions, PEC specializes in engineering and technical services, while Tutech focuses on software development. HSBC, apart from finance, also recruits for technology-driven roles in areas like data science and IT infrastructure. These companies look for skills in programming, data structures, algorithms, web development, and cloud computing during their placement assessments and interviews.

Many students pursue higher studies after completing their B.Sc. in computer science, opting for M.Sc. programs at prestigious institutions like Jadavpur University (JU), Calcutta University (CU), Kalyani University, CMI, and RKMVERI. Some also choose the MCA program to deepen their technical expertise. After postgraduation, students often aim for M.Tech at IITs, qualifying through GATE, while others crack the NET exam and pursue PhDs at top institutions like IITs.
